When a beauty shock is needed to liven up a blah-looking face, most women turn to the usual stuff – bright red lipstick, colorful eye shadow, or neon-colored nails. If you’re not like most women however, and you need a little more than that to glam up your life, you might want to check out lip tattoos from Violent Lips.

These temporary lip tattoos are exactly what their name implies. Your lips look shockingly crazy and practically violent with them on. They’re lip appliqués that stick on with water and lasts four to eight hours on your pucker. They’re taken off with wipes and mineral or baby oil. They come in insane designs too. Sephora has them in sets of 3 and in several glitter colors ranging from blue to silver.

They’ll be a hit come Halloween, but they might be a little too wild for everyday use. Would you go for lip tattoos on a normal day? We’re all for them whatever the occasion – or lack thereof – is. We just wonder how they’ll fare through a hot and heavy makeout session.

A lot of neutrals showed up on the runaways at New York Fashion Week. There were nude nails at BCBG Max Azria, while at Rebecca Taylor, gray-green was the nail color of choice. At Hervé Legér, neutral nails were the thing too. The models’ nails were painted with OPI Coney Island Cotton Candy. It’s a yummy, light pink hue that looks almost beige. It actually appeared so close to natural nails on the models and had a clean, polished look to it. If you want feminine, yet subtle nails for Spring 2012, this one’s the ticket.

Neutral colors and bright shades were some of the big themes for nails at New York Fashion Week. Nude nails were the thing at BCBG Max Azria, with models strutting their stuff with simple, clean, barely-there nails. At the Jason Wu and Rebecca Taylor shows, red and neutrals punctuated the runaways. We got the lowdown from OPI on the nail polish shades.

At Jason Wu, models wore orange-red nails and matching orange-red lips, which really popped on the runway. The bright OPI Monsooner or Later was used on fingers, while the neutral Samoan Sand was used on toes. At Rebecca Taylor, fingernails were painted with OPI Stranger Tides from the Pirates of the Caribbean collection. It’s a gray-green crème that is understated but tough-looking. Toes were coated with OPI Tickle My France-y, a purplish-nude shade. Spring 2012 is going to be a cool mix of neutrals and colors.

It’s Fashion Week, and the beauty world’s going crazy coming up with looks for the shows. OPI started the week by doing nails for BCBG Max Azria. The models’ nails were painted with OPI Samoan Sand. It’s a very natural, barely there nude shade. This color is fabulously low-key, and gives nails a clean, polished, unpretentious look. Just check it out on model Arizona Muse! It’s just a taste of the minimalist goodness that will come for Spring 2012.

Serena Williams’ nails looked super fine at the launch of her nail polish collection for OPI called Glam Slam US in New York City. The tennis star, who is currently training in the Big Apple for the US Open, showed up in a sweet and short blush-colored dress that she toughened up with a cropped leather jacket. The sweet yet tough ensemble needed a dose of sexiness, which she achieved with a mix of red and rose gold nail polish on her long nails.

Serena chose lacquers from her latest OPI line, Glam Slam US, of course. She used the shimmering red Love is a Racket as a base, then she did geometric designs on every other nail with Pros & Bronze – a glittery rose gold shade. She is actually so passionate about nails that she went to nail school. It has definitely paid off, as evidenced by her fabulous nails at the event.

Serena’s collaboration with the brand has produced 11 nail polish shades. Along with the brand’s co-founder, Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, new shades have come out for every tennis Grand Slam tournament date – Australia, France, England, and the latest, US. Glam Slam US is now out on OPI.com.

Dianna Agron has been doing some style experiments lately. She’s been deviating from her usually classic look and trying out edgier things. Surprisingly, her latest beauty endeavor is pink hair. The actress was snapped in Los Angeles with rowdy, hot pink hair. It was not only neon – it was also pinned in random chunks. It matched her hot pink sunglasses and the print on her white dress. It’s a far cry from her natural, silky, blond locks, but she is actually working it. Her constantly changing look has kept her from becoming boring. It will surely be interesting to see if her Glee character Quinn Fabray will start sporting pink hair too.

Carey Mulligan has a style that’s all her own. She rocks vintage and period-inspired pieces one day, and then turns around and goes completely edgy the next. Unsurprisingly, her one-of-a-kind taste in clothes also extends to her nails. The actress turned up at the Comic-Con panel for her movie Drive with mismatched nails to go with her edgy, color-blocked, cut-out Roksanda Ilincic dress. She chose to go sweet with her fingers – they were colored light-pink with Essie Blushing Bride polish. Then, she went fiery coral on her toes with Essie Capri polish. The combination actually worked, giving her a yin-yang sort of look. The delicate pink balanced out her very edgy dress, while the vivid coral gave her color-blocked outfit an even bigger impact. Giuliana Rancic recently spent a weekend in Chicago to attend several events. Though it wasn’t quite as lovely as California weather there yet, the E! Fashion Police host was in full summer form. She stopped by the Essie Pop-Up-Shop in the city and got a manicure in a shade from the brand’s summer Braziliant collection. Too Too Hot – a fiery, coral red – was her color of choice to go with a leopard print dress she was going to wear that evening. This particular nail lacquer definitely has a flirty vibe, but the bright red color stops short of being vampy and just looks like it’s full of sunshine. It will stand out against a leopard print dress like Giuliana’s choice, but it will also match a bright bikini at the beach. It’s a true summer color for sure!

There are times when being matchy-matchy with outfits gets amazing results. See Exhibit A: Penelope Cruz at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival in a blue Stella McCartney dress and blue Casadei heels. There are also times when being matchy-matchy can be taken a little bit too far. See Exhibit B: Avril Lavigne at the Nobu restaurant in London. The pop star – who hasn’t gotten tired of her skater outfits – was photographed leaving the place in her usual hoodie and jeans. What wasn’t typical was her matchy-matchy hair and accessory. She had a lime green streak in her hair, and a lime green Hermes Birkin bag on her arm.

A Birkin is hardly something anyone would expect Avril to tote, but here she is, with matching hair to boot. She either loved the bag too much so she dyed her hair in the same color, or she loved the lime green streak on her hair so much that she had to get a matching bag to go with it.This is reminiscent of the time when Lady Gaga defaced her Birkins with studs and black markers. It was totally unexpected. Still, casual Avril with a Birkin in a hoodie with a streak in her hair is so different from casual Olivia Palermo with a Birkin in army green pants and sneakers. It also wasn’t like Alessandra Ambrosio with a Birkin and shorts. Maybe it’s the almost neon hair dye on her messy blonde hair that did it, but Avril somehow takes away the stylish impact the iconic Birkin usually brings.

The smoky eyes Gwen Stefani had at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival certainly got a lot of attention on the red carpet. She showed up at the This Must Be the Place premiere in a white Armani Prive gown with a black asymmetrical strap and a keyhole in front that was unique, modern and sexy all at the same time. However, all eyes were drawn to her eyes, which were heavily made up for the event and looked very dark and smoky. On the Internet, people are saying it was too much and took attention away from her dress, while some say it made her look beautifully dramatic. Others are saying it really fit her personality, some are saying it looked messy and over the top. Here at SodaBottle headquarters, we’re all for it. Gwen Stefani is a rockstar – it’s totally fine for her to look like one. The dark eyes went well with her brushed up hair and her trademark red lipstick. Kudos goes to her for not looking like anyone else on the red carpet! It was an edgy look for an edgy girl.
