Not all nail lacquers are created equal. There are some that require massive skill to apply, while some go on as smooth as silk. The NYX Advanced Salon Formula nail polish is the latter. This lacquer was designed to give a salon manicure effect, and it does deliver. NYX sent the SodaBottle team samples to try, and here’s our review.
This nail polish is true to its name. It makes manicures look like they were professionally done. The formula goes on really smooth, and application is a walk in the park with the well-designed, large and flat brush. The polish also has a lovely, thin consistency that requires three coats, which means it layers on really well.
Femme was our favorite among the three samples we got. It’s a very pretty silver foil with subtle purple and blue hues. The texture has some sort of grain to it, like very fine glitter, which brings an edgy quality to its shimmer. It went on incredibly smooth, unlike some metallic polish that applies with very visible brush lines.

Hunter Green is a true green color with a finish that’s a cross between jelly and creamy. It’s simply a shiny, straightforward, no-nonsense lacquer.

Royal Blue is a dark, inky, jelly polish. Ignore the name, which seems to suggest a bright hue. It’s actually an almost black, moody kind of midnight blue. It’s got shine, but it’s a subtle one, which makes it sophisticated, yet laid-back at the same time.

The NYX Advanced Salon Formula nail polish did not disappoint. It’s pretty much fool-proof, which makes it a must-buy for the manicure-challenged. There are a myriad of shades to choose from (144, to be precise), and just $4 a pop.
