Fashion Extra: Fashion journalist Anna Piaggi dies at 81

Anna Piaggi

The world of fashion is mourning over the loss of a fashion maven. Fashion journalist and Karl Lagerfeld’s muse Anna Piaggi died in Milan last August 7 from an unknown cause. The Italian writer was known for her eccentric style, which included funky hats, huge accessories, and colorful makeup, which made her stand out in the Italian and Parisian runway shows.

Several fashion designers shared their thoughts on the demise of Anna. Fellow Italian Giorgio Armani told Women’s Wear Daily, “Anna Piaggi knew how to take a very Italian way of living and thinking fashion and make it international, turning it into the highest expression of art and culture.” Donatella Versace said, “She was a visionary with a heart of gold. The world is a little less colorful without her.”

The iconic fashion journalist worked as a translator for Mondadori – an Italian publishing company – before writing for Vogue Italia and Vanity. She’s also famous for her large clothes collection, which consists of more than two thousand dresses and 265 pairs of shoes, according to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London at a 2006 exhibition.

She was married to photographer Alfa Castaldi – who died in 1995. Anna, may you rest fashionably in peace.
