Soda Pop: Mariah Carey is the newest ‘Idol’ judge

It’s official! Mariah Carey is taking over a seat on the American Idol judging panel for its twelfth season. Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly confirmed it by putting the pop diva on speaker phone in front of television critics last Monday.

“I am so excited to be joining Idol. I can’t wait to get started,” the Through the Rain hitmaker said. It is rumored that she will be paid $17M for her stint on the famed singing talent show. At any rate, she expressed her anticipation through Twitter saying, “It’s gonna be so much fun working on @AmericanIdol. As a singer-songwriter, I’m excited to help find and nurture new talent. LYM! –MC.”

American Idol will be back in 2013 with a new set of judges following Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez’s departure. Meanwhile, Randy Jackson’s participation is also unsure with reports saying he will be demoted from the judging panel to the mentoring role.
