Soda Pop: Breakup Alert – Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes

When we were little girls, we believed in having a happy ending with our celebrity crush. Katie Holmes supposed that too, until she woke up from her fairy tale dream. When the news about Katie filing for divorce from Tom Cruise broke out last Friday, the world was in shock as well as the internet universe. Dubbed ‘TomKat’ by the media, this A-list couple should be celebrating their sixth wedding anniversary in November. Sadly, there will never be a celebration like that again. We went back to memory lane to see how their blissful union blossomed until this ill-fated separation.

October 2004 – The Dawson’s Creek alum tells Seventeen magazine, “I think every little girl dreams about (her wedding). I used to think I was going to marry Tom Cruise.” Indeed, Katie didn’t have any idea that her dream would later on come true.

April 2005 – A 26-year-old Katie and 42-year-old Tom are spotted walking hand-in-hand after dining out at a restaurant in Rome. Their first public appearance together made a speculation that their romance is just a publicity stunt for their movie Batman Begins.

May 2005 – Tom gushes about his new lady love on The Oprah Winfrey Show. He jumps on Oprah’s couch in an uproar saying, “I’m in love!” The incident became famous and was later on called Tom’s ‘couch jumping’ episode. Who would forget that?

June 2005 – Katie converts from Catholicism to the Church of Scientology; the romantic proposal happens on top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. This might be every girl’s dream place of being proposed to.

October 2005 – The engaged couple announce that they are expecting their first baby together.

April 2006 – The couple welcomes Suri Cruise at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California. Suri means “princess” in Hebre and “red rose” in Persian. She’s got the eyes of her actor father and the smile of her actress mother.

October 2006 – Suri makes her grand debut on Vanity Fair as its cover together with her lovely parents. The photo was shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz.

November 2006 – The enchanted wedding happens. Tom and Katie say ‘I do’ at 15th-century Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy. The fairytale-like wedding is full of Hollywood couples like David and Victoria Beckham, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, Jennifer Lopez and then-husband Marc Anthony, and Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy to name a few. It totally made the list of weddings of the year category in every magazine.

May 2007 – As an A-lister couple, media reports surfaced that Katie is being controlled by Tom in terms of marital discord. Close friends and relatives of the couple refute the issue.

June 2008 – The couple secretly attends the MTV Movie Awards and walk through the back door to avoid the crowded red carpet.

May 2010 – Katie performs a sexy version of “Whatever Lola Wants” for her husband, proving they are still blissfully living together at a Hollywood event. To finish the performance, she kissed Tom, who looked so proud of her.

July 2011 – Katie surprises her husband with a birthday party in Florida where he’s filming Rock of Ages.

February 2012 – The couple’s last appearance together take place in Vanity Fair Oscars Party. Without a hint of separation, they pose for the camera just like a normal couple.

June 2012 – The news about Katie filing for a divorce from her dream guy Tom Cruise circulates the Internet, ending their five-year marriage. We are waiting for further details on this sad news that’s been going on since last week.
