Product Pick-Me-Up: NYX's Primetime Ready Makeup
Beauty
Posted on August 10, 2011 under Beauty,Product Pick-Me-UpIf you like makeup, you most likely have a regular makeup routine down pat. You probably have all or a mix of the following – moisturizer, sunscreen, concealer, and foundation. Now is the time to squeeze makeup primer right in there. It’s another step in an already comprehensive routine, but investing in one is worth it.
The makeup primer gets your face ready for makeup. It sets the canvas, so to speak, so that makeup will go on smoothly. NYX recently sent us their HD Studio Photogenic Primer to try, which further convinced us that a good makeup routine wouldn’t be complete without primer.
The NYX HD Studio Photogenic Primer is part of the NYX HD Studio Photogenic Collection. All the products in this set have light-diffusing formulas that give the face a soft-focus effect. It’s studio makeup that’s primarily designed for camera work, so it makes skin look smoother, and provides high definition coverage. This primer helps soften lines and fills in pores so they don’t appear. It only comes in one universal shade, because it’s designed to go on after moisturizer or sunscreen and before foundation.
Application was a little tricky at first. The formula felt a little thick, and spreading it evenly on the skin took a few tries to get the hang of. Once we got the technique though, things went smoothly from there. We used pea-sized dots so that it doesn’t go on in gummy, and we also made sure that it dissolved neatly into the skin. A little actually went a long way.
The primer filled in all the unattractive notches, lines, and ridges on the face. It sorted out all the rough textures, and the HD effect made bumps looked pretty even. Foundation glided on top of it easily, since it got rid of the nicks that foundation usually snags on.
This primer also helped make foundation stay on all day. We would normally retouch our foundation around lunch time, but we found that we didn’t have to. The photogenic attributes also worked. Skin looked wonderfully dewy both in pictures and in real life. Overall, we had a good experience with the NYX HD Studio Photogenic Primer. It does help make the face picture-perfect, even if there are no cameras around. It’s $14 over at NYX.
