Product Pick-Me-Up: Pure Androgyny with Lush
Beauty
Posted on August 2, 2011 under Beauty,Product Pick-Me-UpLush’s Dirty line is a real gender bender. It’s a collection of unisex scents designed to leave one feeling clean – the exact opposite of its name. Lush sent us a few products from the line to try, and we’re starting off with the Dirty Body Spray. Read on for our review.
The Dirty Body Spray comes in a large, black bottle that looks like your everyday, household cleaning spray. It’s not your garden-variety fragrance bottle at all. It’s portable alright, but it does take up a lot of purse real estate. It does look interesting however, and will make a unique addition to your dresser or bathroom.
When it comes to the scent, it’s undeniably masculine. It’s supposed to be unisex, but it’s got a strong, manly fragrance. The scent is made up of woods and spices. There’s sandalwood, tarragon and lavender, but it’s spearmint that makes the mix unique. It may not be something you’d wear to the office or on night outs, but the musk-with-toothpaste vibe and its deodorizing quality are just about right for after-work-out showers, or before hitting the sheets.
Thanks to the spicy and woodsy notes, the mix is a little on the heavy side so it doesn’t really come off as fresh (something we’d relate more to aqua and citrus notes). However, the spearmint gives off a really clean scent, so you get that just-got-out-of-the-shower vibe. Here’s a warning though – don’t be heavy-handed with the spray. The spice notes can be overpowering – cloying, even – too much is sprayed on. One pull on the handle should be enough if you expect to be cozy with another person, unless said person is somehow addicted to toothpaste and heavy, spicy scents. For getting-close-with-someone purposes, it’s probably best to let it air out a few minutes beforehand. The dry-down leaves a light, pleasant scent (we’re guessing it’s the lavender note) that should appeal to sensitive noses.
All in all, the Dirty Body Spray is one to try if you’re into experimenting with fragrances or feeling especially androgynous. On days when you’re not into being a girly-girl, you can embrace your inner tomboy and spritz some of it on. If you’re into light, feminine, fragrances though, then this would make a great present for your guy or the other men in your life instead.
