Product Pick Me Up: All Around Balm from Lush Lush Ultrabalm web

Summer is in the process of stepping out, and the cold weather season is already around the corner. That means your skin just can’t get a break at the moment. It’s dry in hot weather, dry in cold weather, and it can easily be dry all year round. Lush has a new balm to help skin stay luscious whatever the weather, and they sent us a sample to try. Read on for our review.

The Lush Ultrabalm may well be the balm to trump all balms. The package says it’s an “all-purpose balm for all your bits”, and it’s exactly that. You can find a ton of uses for its moisturizing qualities. So far, we’ve used it as a cuticle cream to moisturize dry spots like elbows and knees, as a lip balm, and to soothe mosquito bites. You can also use it as a barrier cream when you’re applying hair color or henna, to soothe minor scrapes, to keep eyebrows in place, to relieve sunburn, and of course as a moisturizing body cream. Think of it as a better version of petroleum jelly. It’s not sticky, it’s made from natural ingredients, and it doesn’t have a cloying, petroleum smell. It’s actually only made up of three ingredients – candelilla wax; jojoba oil, a vegan alternative to beeswax that locks moisture in and protects the skin; and rose wax, which helps relieve irritated skin.

The thing we liked the most about it is the formula. It wasn’t heavy, it applied easily, and it dissolved instantly into our skin. At first we were astonished to find that it was so light, but when we looked at our skin, it was looking better than before we applied the balm. It moisturized that well! Our skin felt soft and supple immediately after applying. It also only smelled like wax at first, as was expected, but the smell disappeared very quickly.

Since the Ultrabalm is like wax, a little goes a long way. One thin swipe was actually enough for the cuticles in one hand, or for the lips. It comes in a cool silver tin too. It’s a surprisingly hefty container, so it’ll last a while. The tin also makes it very portable. You can tote it around in your purse and whip it out whenever you need it. At $12.95, it’s a little pricey for a simple balm, but since it’s a multipurpose, all-weather, all-purpose balm and it lasts a long time, it’s a very good beauty buy.
