Product Pick-Me-Up: NYX’s Runway-ready Eye Shadow Palette

One quick and convenient thing you can toss into your everyday bag is a makeup palette. Everything you need to look human in the morning should be in one place so you don’t have to scrounge around for tiny pots.

NYX sent us a sample of the Runway Collection 10 Eyeshadow Palette. As its name points out, it’s a set of 10 runway-inspired eye shadow shades in one neat compact, so it’s very convenient to have as an everyday makeup set. We got the Romance version, which has all neutral shades in the white, beige, pink, brown, cream, and bronze color ranges. This is a great mix of colors – they’ll go with a lot of things in your closet, and they’re easy to mix, match and blend as well. The shadows come in a slim, compact, black case too, which means it won’t take up much purse real estate.

When we tried the eye shadows on though, we found that those on the top half of the compact were too light. It took several swipes to get the exact shades we wanted. The colors on the bottom half fared better. They had more shimmer, so they looked nicely glam and sparkly. However, application was a bit tough. The shadows were a little dry in texture, so bits of color fell on our eyelashes and on the sides of our eyes. The colors didn’t stay long on our lids either. We put them on early in the morning, but by lunch time they had taken on a faded look.

This is a nice, attractive compact, and a kit of 10 eye shadows at $9.75 apiece is a good enough deal. The neutral shades are great for your daily jaunts – errands, shopping, and work – but if you want high-impact, long-lasting colors, then we suggest you look for something else.
